Fight Your Feelings!
I have discovered one of the most important qualities that separate successful people form unsuccessful people. What enables one to reach success & what pretty much guarantees one not reaching it? It’s very simple. The one thing is simply this: Execute consistently. That means do what you need to do whether you feel like it or not. Simple, I know, but it’s not easy. This simple thing is the reason why there are so may unsuccessful people. This one thing is the difference between those who reach their goals & experience their dreams & those who only dream. While it is easy to say, it can be very hard to do when the time comes.
What makes executing consistently difficult? I’m glad you asked. It’s difficult because we think that we are going to feel like doing the needed tasks 5 out of 7 days a week. As a matter of fact you would think that you will always feel like being as productive as you can be the most days out of the week. The truth is that’s not true. You are going to feel like it about 1 -3 days out of a week. Everybody is pumped the first week when it’s new & fresh, maybe the 2nd week. But by around the 3rd week (or sooner) most people experience a significant drop off in motivation & follow through. This is when consistent execution becomes difficult. Feelings turn out to be the biggest downfall of most people. Many can’t overcome their own feelings of laziness or just simply not feeling like it.
You could be doing things that are good for your health & your feelings STILL don’t want to do them. Feelings want to do things that are COUNTER-productive & NOT good for you or your health (I can’t stand that lol). It would seem like feelings should naturally pull you towards things that are beneficial but they work to do quite the opposite. The difficulty with feelings is that they trick you. Feelings don’t want anything but to bring you down. It’s crazy to realize but it’s true.
I remember thinking that I could train myself to feel like being productive more often. I figured I would make the good things a habit so that eventually my feelings would naturally pull me towards them. I thought that would make me want only what I knew was best for me. Even in doing that I discovered that the feelings never cooperate. No matter how routine I made my schedule my feelings CONSTANTLY pulled me in the opposite direction. That’s when I figured it out! I had an epiphany! I realized that if I wanted to be successful I was going to have to go against my feelings to achieve it. I realized that the biggest battle was myself. That day I decided that I had to prepare myself to fight myself. I had to become a fighter because if I didn’t I would lose the battle with my feelings all the time. Not externally but internally. There are goals I want to reach, & dreams I want to see become reality. If I sit around and wait to feel like being productive I realized it will never happen. I can’t move based on how I feel, I decided to move NO MATTER HOW I feel. That’s the only way to become & remain consistent in execution & reach the place I want to reach.
Today I want you to realize that your feelings will not go away. They will not make it easy for you. You have to have a made-up mind to follow through. There will be days that you feel like it, but there will also be days that you don’t. Frankly there will probably be more days that you don’t feel like it. It’s not fair but it’s true. If you want to see success you have to fight your feelings. You may not feel like it today but I can assure you that when you reach your point of success you will be glad to look back & say “I deserve this”. Where you are in your life is a direct result of how much work you have put it in. If you have been following your feelings your accomplishments will show it. Adversely if you have been fighting your feelings so that you can execute consistently I guarantee your accomplishments will show it. Keep working towards your goals & keep fighting for your success! It’s worth it. Every time you don’t feel like doing what you know is necessary remind yourself that you have to fight how you feel if you want to be successful. Fight, fight, & FIGHT some more! Success comes to those who are willing to fight for it!
